06/25/2024

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Sunday inspected the progress of the construction of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) Project in Intramuros.

They focused on the PBBM Project Showcase Area Phase 1C, which connects the showcase area behind the Manila Central Post Office to the walled city of  Intramuros.

The continuation features tiendas that will house more than 32 businesses. Above it will be a roofdeck which will have a viewing area with the same design as the Intramuros wall.

The roof deck connects to the pedestrian walkway and bike lane which is among the highlights of the PBBM project to promote transport connectivity.

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, concurrent chief of the IAC-PRUD said in addition to restoring the old glory of the river, the project also aims to help ease traffic on the  streets by promoting water transportation through the Pasig Ferry System-an alternative method of commuting within Metro Manila.

"Pwede mag-jogging dito, all the way to Manila de Bay," said Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar of the DHSUD. "Meron bike lane, meron pedestrian, sa ilalim po nito, nandoon yung commercial … [It will be] open sa public in two months' time."

Marcos Jr. said that the entire project is targeted to be completed within three years.

"Bringing the Pasig River back to life mirrors our ongoing journey towards a brighter future for our country. How well we do here will reflect our efforts in other areas of the country and how successful we are at improving and leaving the country a better place than we found it," he said.

"Rest assured that apart from our enthusiasm and optimism, the First Lady and I will provide our all-our support and commitment to the completion of this project, and hopefully in three years’ time that will be our goal," Marcos Jr. added.

"Let us keep up the pace and the hard work, and ensure that the Pasig River becomes a place of rest, recreation, and pride for our people and our country."

The program was attended by Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senator Win Gatchalian, Senator Cynthia Villar, Senator Mark Villar, and some businessmen.

It rained after the president's speech, but the first couple still mingled with guests.
