MANILA — Resigning from the presidency is not an option for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Malacañang said on Tuesday, a day after Sen. Imee Marcos urged her younger brother to “come home” after accusing him of being a long-time illegal drug user.
Only supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte are calling for the President’s resignation so that she could ascend to the Philippines’ top post, Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a press briefing in Malacañang.
“The President is still working and keeps on working for the country so hindi po option sa administrasyon, sa Pangulo ang pagbibitiw,” she said.
Sen. Marcos’ recent allegations against the President — which have been debunked long ago — is part of the narrative that the opposition has long been peddling, Castro said.
Meantime, the Malacañang denied observations that Marcos Jr.’s corruption investigations has “boomeranged” against the administration after the controversy has unleashed months-long of political bickering that has affected the country’s economy.
