Uno Digital Bank on Friday said its customers' funds are safe amid its extended system maintenance.
The digital bank's statement came after an alias "James" aired his concerns about his money with Uno Digital Bank."
"James" said that on October 10, Saturday, he checked his Uno Digital account as his father was due for chemotherapy on Wednesday. But he found that the bank was under system maintenance.
The customer said he expected the system maintenance to last for a few hours or at most 24 hours, as is usually the case.
However, when he checked again on Monday, Uno was still under system maintenance.
James sent he wasn't able to use his money. He called Uno Digital but no one could tell him about where his funds went.
He also noted that the bank did not issue an advisory, and that its Facebook page was already down by Monday.
His father's chemotherapy pushed through, but he had to borrow money from friends.
Uno Digital Bank said its customers' funds were safe during its system maintenance.
"We assure everyone that our recent maintenance procedure did not impact customer funds or account balances, and that we expect all banking services to be restored today," it said in a statement.
The bank also explained the prolonged system maintenance.
"On October 11, following the identification of technical issues affecting our systems, we placed our digital banking services under unscheduled, extended maintenance as a precautionary measure while continuing our transition to the upgraded UNO 2.0 platform. As the maintenance had to begin immediately, we regret that we were unable to notify customers in advance," it said.
Uno apologized to its customers for the inconvenience this caused.
"As of October 14, our UNO app is accessible and all activity can be viewed, and we have been gradually restoring our other banking services - expected to be completed by today," the bank said. "We continue to closely monitor system performance and will provide updates through our official channels as restoration progresses."
"As our way of thanking our affected funded customers for their patience and understanding, we are offering additional bonus interest to eligible savings accounts," it added.
For its part, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said it is working with Uno to resolve the issue immediately.
"It should address the disruption and meet its obligations to its customers. Supervisory action may be applied, as appropriate, based on results of the ongoing inquiry," the central bank said.
